Sakurado was founded in 2018 after Ernest TC-Singh discovered the exceptional Japanese cakes handcrafted by Mei Rubin. Mei had approached Ernest about supplying cakes to his Richmond restaurant business, Gourmet Oriental, leading him to visit the small Putney location where her cakes were being sold. Impressed by their quality and authenticity, Ernest recognised their wider potential and envisioned bringing premium Japanese patisserie to Kensington. Combining Ernest's entrepreneurial vision with Mei's baking expertise, Sakurado was born. Together, they opened the first Sakurado store at 14 Gloucester Road, Kensington, introducing London to authentic Japanese cakes and desserts built on quality, craftsmanship, and innovation.
