  Dear ROKA Canary Wharf Team, I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent conversation with your reservations manager about making a booking for 10 people for an office lunch, which is also a colleague’s birthday celebration. Of the 10 guests, nine would like to opt for the Express Lunch set menu. One guest is vegetarian and, as the Express Lunch does not appear to offer suitable vegetarian options for them, they are more than happy to simply order one vegetarian dish from the à la carte menu instead. However, I have been told that this cannot be accommodated and that either all 10 guests must order à la carte, or all 10 must choose the set menu. I genuinely find this extremely unreasonable and disappointing. We are talking about one person with a dietary requirement, while the other nine guests are perfectly happy to choose the set menu. I cannot understand why your restaurant would be unwilling to accommodate such a straightforward request, particularly when the guest is not asking for a special menu or exception at the expense of the restaurant — they simply want to order one suitable vegetarian dish à la carte. It seems particularly inflexible for a restaurant of ROKA’s reputation to potentially lose a booking for 10 people over something that should be a very simple and reasonable accommodation. I would therefore appreciate it if this could be reconsidered by a senior member of the team. We would genuinely like to celebrate my colleague’s birthday at ROKA, but I have to say that this experience has left me very disappointed and questioning whether we should choose another restaurant instead. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can find a reasonable solution.

  Me and my partner went for dinner on Saturday for our anniversary it was very busy the atmosphere was pleasant and we were seated very quickly despite us accidentally booking for the day after which was greatly appreciated. Our servers were polite and professional and every course from the entrées to the mains and sides were some of the best food we’ve eaten. The drinks were also good and the overall price was also very respectable for what we had eaten and drank. We will definitely return!

  The atmosphere, food and service at Roka was amazing. We went as a big group for a friend's birthday and were on the upstairs terrace. Everything went smoothly and the staff were very accommodating. Food was served hot and the menu had a great selection

  Good food but disappointing service. We hadn’t booked but saw there was availability for tables online so walked in as we live locally and we were told there was no space (restaurant is empty at this point at 11.30am). The lady on front-of-house told us that if it said there was a table available, then to book online and made us wait and do it in front of her, rudely interrupting me when I asked my wife what we were waiting for. We booked and it came up for her on the system and rather than apologising for making us wait and making us do it ourselves she then told us that it would be tight and there’s not much space to sit, offering no solution. We said we’d like the table and she seemingly reluctantly got her colleague to seat us. If you let us book online it’s YOUR problem the table doesn’t have enough space, not OURS. She was consistently rude, passive aggressive and seemed completely disinterested in “allowing” us to dine.

  We had a great time at Roka!. We booked a table for 2 and ordered from the donburi lunch time menu. Firstly the staff were so accommodating and so helpful, as we had a little trouble finding the location and when we phoned to explain that we would be slightly late, they were so understanding and even tried to direct us over the telephone, which was really helpful . When we arrived the lady at the front desk was so welcoming and offered us a choice of sections where we could sit. MEHDI was our waiter and he was amazing!!! His service was exceptional! He was very polite, very attentive and always made sure to check that everything was ok. Thank you for a lovely afternoon ROKA and thank you to MEHDI. We will definitely be back!!
