Disappointing Customer Service and Concerns About Racial Stereotyping – Brixton Hill Post Office, Nisa Local
I had a very disappointing experience at Brixton Hill Post Office today. I arrived with approximately 5 minutes to spare before closing to return several parcels. While a staff member was already processing my returns, I explained that I still had three more parcels to return.
I was then told that they were closed and that I would have to come back tomorrow. I questioned this because my returns were already being processed, I was the last customer, and the Post Office closes at 7 pm. I struggled to understand why I was being turned away when I was already in the process of completing my returns.
What made this experience particularly unpleasant was the attitude of the staff, especially the lady processing my returns. She repeatedly told me to stop arguing with her colleague and characterised me as argumentative, when I was simply trying to explain my situation. I was attempting to upload the remaining QR codes, but they were not loading. I explained this and asked them to bear with me while I tried to resolve the issue. Instead of showing patience or communicating respectfully, I was repeatedly told to come back tomorrow.
I found the way I was spoken to unnecessarily harsh and dismissive. I was not looking for an argument; I was trying to complete my returns and understand the situation. Being repeatedly labelled argumentative simply for explaining myself and asking questions was particularly upsetting.
The interaction also left me questioning whether racial stereotyping or bias played a part in how I was treated. The repeated characterisation of me as argumentative felt stereotypical and uncalled for. I cannot speak to the staff member’s intentions, but I should not have to feel that asking questions or explaining a practical issue will result in being portrayed as difficult or confrontational. This aspect of the interaction genuinely concerned me and made the experience more than just a disappointing customer service encounter.
I understand that staff have closing times to observe, but I also expect customers to be treated with basic respect, patience and courtesy. Even if my returns could not be completed before closing, the situation could have been handled in a far more professional and respectful manner.
I hope management takes this complaint seriously, reviews what happened and reflects on how customers are spoken to, particularly when they raise questions or encounter difficulties. No customer should leave an interaction feeling belittled, unfairly characterised or concerned that they may have been subjected to racial stereotyping.
This was an upsetting and unnecessary experience, and I hope the branch takes meaningful steps to improve its customer service.

Okay they had my favourite crisps (scampi fries) but their hours don’t match up. The UPS collection point says open 06:00-23:30 but then you go and it says only between 09:00-19:00 which is so unhelpful as that’s normally the time everyone is at work. So I miss the delivery for being at work and then it’s dropped somewhere that I cannot access until the weekend.
Seriously unhelpful. But nice crisps.

It's published by Google that this branch open by 06.00hrs to deceive customers. They do not open until 06.30hrs, this has happened to me 3ice when I needed to shop at 06.00 hrs and this morning as well. They should correct this anomaly. Benson
