We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

- ABArtiom Bilea1 day ago1.0I visited Greggs at around 3:40 pm and bought a chicken bake. After I had already paid and was handed the food, I realised it was stone cold. I politely asked if it could be heated up in the microwave because nobody wants to eat a cold chicken bake. The staff member told me they couldn’t heat it up. I asked, “Then why are you selling it if it’s cold?” He then said they were closing soon, but it was only 3:40 pm, and the store doesn’t close until 6:00 pm. That excuse made no sense. If the food is cold and can’t be reheated, it shouldn’t be sold to customers. I had already paid for it, so I was left with a cold chicken bake I didn’t want to eat. The atmosphere was poor, the customer service was terrible, and the food was even worse. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, and I won’t be returning to this Greggs.

There's a dedicated seating area with plenty of tables and chairs, exclusively for customers wanting to enjoy their Greggs purchases. I visited on a weekday around 3pm and was served almost instantly once a member of staff noticed me. However, there didn't seem to be many staff working that day. I was able to redeem my Monzo Perks free hot drink here to get a vanilla latte. Unfortunately, I didn't feel particularly safe walking to this Greggs, as the surrounding area felt quite run-down. However, I can imagine it's a convenient option if you're stopping at the petrol station to fill up.

I bought food from Greggs but was told to leave because I was also eating food I’d bought elsewhere. I explained that I was a paying customer, but the staff didn’t care and insisted I leave anyway. The way they treated me was rude, embarrassing, and completely unnecessary. I definitely won’t be returning to this branch.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
