Yelled at by floor supervisor after asking for a refund. This Co-op is on the ground floor of the same building as my flat. Most of the staff are lovely, friendly and polite. The floor supervisor on weekends, however, is something else. She has always been rude to me.
Today, I popped-in, because on my last visit they charged me full price for a discounted item. Co-op stick discounted stickers over the old ones. In this Co-op, they often stick the new stickers incorrectly, leaving the original full-price barcode exposed. And, occasionally, the check-out staff end-up scanning the full price barcode. When I noticed that this happened once more, I decided to go back for a refund - the first time I have ever come back to ask for a refund. I brought my receipt and the packaging that had the discount label stuck incorrectly. The really lovely associate Janina was helping me. In the middle of our interaction, the floor supervisor came to me with a nasty smirk being like: no, the lasagnas will not go on sale today.
When she found out I was getting a refund, she became positively nasty to me telling me how she will have to document it. That's not my fault. And, I wasn't the one who labelled the item incorrectly.
After getting my refund from the lovely Janina, I went browsing for other items. I saw there was an offer if you buy two pizzas and Ben and Jerry's ice cream. When I brought my items to the till, it turned out that the specific pizzas and ice cream I brought were not included in the promotion. This is a regular promo and I had made this mistake in the past, because I find the Co-op promo labels confusing. So, after paying for my other items, I asked the floor supervisor to help me understand which items are included in the promotion and which are not. She refused to help and started shouting (I am not exaggerating, she did shout) at me, telling me that they are understaffed, that I know which items are included and am just making trouble, etc, etc. She also told me to "be quiet", when I repeatedly told her that she had no right to speak with me this way and that Co-op's operational problems are not my fault. I simply had some simple queries and did not realise that I was not allowed to ask for help - she told me that I am wasting time and should not be asking her for anything.
After finding the correct items and coming to pay for them by myself, the floor manager once again started shouting at me in front of customers in order to humiliate me for wanting to buy items that are on promotion. Once again, I informed her that she cannot speak to me this way and I will be contacting customer support. This only made her angrier at me. She then accused me of spending 30 minutes in this store walking around the isles for no reason. I spent a total of about 5-10 mins walking around the stalls, selecting other items, including cookies, crisps and dark chocolate that I need because my friends are coming for a movie night. The floor supervisor was stalking me around the isles as I did that and it made me very uncomfortable.
A similar situation has happened before on at least one occasion. I popped in to buy some Ben and Jerrys ice cream, which was not on offer. My favourite flavour was not available so I came up to this member of staff to ask if there was anything around the back. She told me I should just take what's out there. The way she spoke to me was rude, but I now realise that I was lucky not to have been shouted at. I do occasionally ask for help in stores. And, all the other staff members in this Co-op were always friendly and helpful. I understand that sometimes things are out of stock or mislabelled, you can just say that to the customer calmly...
For context, this store has no self-check-out and, in England, stores have a legal obligation to refund customers if they have been charged incorrectly. It is not something customers need to be berated about.
