Refused entry by security 2/10/26 at 22:55 five minutes before closing. Told security guard I have five minutes yet and was still refused. Stick to your opening times. Only wanted some milk and breakfast cereal…

I visited this store on 23 August at around 7:30 p.m. When I arrived, I could not find a particular product, so I asked a member of staff whether they had it. He was a slim white man in his early twenties. He told me that he could not help me and that I should go to the checkout and ask there. When I went to the checkout, I had another question about where to find a different product. The man at the checkout was a darker-skinned man of what appeared to me to be Asian or Indian background. He also told me that he could not help me. I explained to him that his colleague had told me to come to the checkout for assistance. He then told me that he could not help me either and that, if I wanted to find something, I should look for it myself. I asked him what he was there for if not to assist customers. He simply repeated that he could not help me. This escalated into a very unpleasant argument. I felt extremely disrespected and treated with complete disregard. As a transgender woman, I was particularly concerned that prejudice may have played a role in the way I was treated. Regardless of the reason, the way both members of staff behaved was completely inappropriate for people working in a customer-facing role. They showed a lack of basic courtesy, professionalism and customer-service training. Several people around us were looking at what was happening. They obviously did not know what had led to the confrontation and may have thought that I was simply overreacting, which made the experience even more humiliating and distressing. This was a genuinely horrible experience, and I do not want to go through anything like this again. I have shopped at Tesco before, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this kind of treatment there. I would like this incident to be taken seriously and for the staff involved to receive appropriate feedback and training on how to treat customers respectfully and professionally.

One door shut, saw a bloke with a wheelchair outside who could not get in. Never any staff at the till or at the rare chance there is someone, they are just rude. Security are completely useless

The store has a really awful layout. It can be hard to get in as the tills, meal deal fridges and other shelving are right at the door. Meaning crowds congregate at the exit. The shelving is so tightly packed in and laid out weirdly, it is difficult to simply get around when there are more than a few people in. And the shelving could be reduced, as the store is always terribly stocked. Multiple occasions I have visited for basics, and haven't been able to get what I need. I moved from the Ashton on Ribble area, where the Express there (Tulketh) is impeccable in every way. So maybe I was spoiled, but i used Tesco almost daily for over 8 years there, along with my larger shops with Tesco online. I've finally signed up to nectar and now use the Sainburys local just a few minutes away from this store, and order online from them too for larger shops. I think Tesco chose a unit too small for their plans in the center. Security guard here is always friendly. It's clear this Tesco is understaffed, as the staff that should be available to check people out are running back and forth trying to stock the fridges at the same time, or the security guard often has to run off to find someone to help. So they're likely very stressed doing 2 people's jobs it seems. But this also increases the issues of people congregating at the entrance, as people queue to buy age verified items or pay with cash. The store needs a better layout, better stock management and more staff.
