I made an order in store for my usual pizza: ham, mushroom and sweetcorn. After collecting it and leaving the store, I noticed that the ham was missing, so I went back to explain the problem.
Instead of simply acknowledging the mistake, the staff member started arguing with me and insisted that I had definitely not asked for ham. This was particularly frustrating because ham, mushroom and sweetcorn is my go-to pizza and I knew exactly what I had ordered.
At that point, I asked for a refund. I was told that they could not refund me in store because they supposedly didn't have the ability or "machine" to process refunds. I was then told that, in order to receive my refund, I needed to provide my personal details, including my name, phone number, email address and bank details. I provided the information because I was told this was Papa John's refund procedure.
The following day, I contacted customer service to make sure my refund request had actually been submitted. I was shocked to be told that for an order placed in store, the refund should be handled by the store itself.
I then spent around a week going back and forth trying to understand why I had been given incorrect information about the refund process and, more importantly, why I had been asked to provide personal and banking details if they were not actually required for the refund procedure I had been told about.
The original issue was simply a missing topping and could have been resolved quickly and professionally. Instead, it turned into an argument, conflicting information about refunds, and an uncomfortable situation involving my personal information.
Very poor customer service and handling of a straightforward complaint. I expected much better from Papa John's.
