We arrived for lunch just after noon on a Monday. Without doubt this was the worst steak and ale pie I’ve ever had. The pastry was rock hard and looked like it had been reheated many times. The risotto seemed to have been made with something other than rice and the sea bass massively overcooked. Don’t believe the glossy website. What an absolute waste of £40. Just as well we don’t have any allergies, they didn’t bother to ask.

This place was recommended to us by the owner of 'The Crossing' micropub. What a gem of a place, welcoming and relaxing atmosphere with a lovely beer garden and dog friendly too. The food menu caters for all tastes and the Sunday Roasts are delicious.

We were a group of 10 guests including 3 children. Our meal was booked for Friday evening. We were asked to pre-order for the Monday before. We arrived before 7 and were informed the server couldn't find our booking. They went into the kitchen and came back stating they had found us. The server had seated us anyway. The server came and took our order for drinks. 40 minutes later we asked about our food. It came 3 minutes later. Some guests food was cold some was very basic for price. I had prawn cocktail as main, I could have made a much better meal for 1/4 of the price. One guest said the lasagne wasn't worth it especially with wilting leaves next to it. The Desserts came I ordered lemon meringue pie. It looked like they had run out of meringue as the pud only contained a smear of meringue. The children had to wait until last to have theirs. I guest never got the coffee they ordered. The staff were very nice.

I worry for the future of this pub. It wasn't our first time to visit, but may be our last. We visited today for a large family meal. Due to the size of the party (10) we had to pre order. When we arrived, our table wasn't even registered on the system, but thankfully the pre order was found. Even then, it was nearly an hour wait for a pre ordered meal in a nearly empty pub. We had little kids with us who were well in need. The food, when it did arrive, was unimpressive. Most was cold, or clearly reheated pre made food. Not expected when it is £20 per course. Drinks didn't turn up after ordering. The two young staff working were trying their hardest and shouldn't have been left without a supervisor. The total cost was far in excess of the quality, adding to the slow service and poor quality. I am really concerned that if this pub doesn't turn a corner, it will be another to fall. Edit - for clarification, in response to owners comments: I am certain none of our party went to the pub to cancel the booking, all attended that meal. We had a text message the previous day to confirm booking, in which we replied yes. (Booked under my partner's name Vicky). I am happy to discuss the outstanding points further direct, if you would like.
