  After driving around the Trough of Bowland to find most pubs shut on Tuesday lunch time we found the Brown Cow. I'm glad we did. The service was polite and attentive. We opted for the trout and the fish finger butty. Both were cooked superbly, served hot and exceptionally tasty. The trout skin was crisped to perfection. The homemade tartare was perfectly tangy. Not sure about the sourdough bun but that is down to personal tastes ...

  Absolutely shocked on saturday.pub almost empty 9pm.food so bland fish wasnt good.was ill next day.whats happened to the brown cow and that great menu they used to serve.bring the old menu back.presentation of food poor

  My wife and I were staying just up the road in Clapham, Lancaster, and I jumped onto Google Maps to find somewhere decent to eat. My wife loves fish, and most of the pubs and restaurants nearby were offering the usual pub classics — nice enough, but nothing that really stood out for her. This little gem caught my eye because it had a proper selection of fish dishes on the menu. She started with the Devon crab crostini, and I went for the calamari. Both spot‑on. For mains, she had the whole grilled Cornish sole, and I chose the grass‑fed 28‑day sirloin — cooked perfectly. Desserts were sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble, plus two glasses of wine and two zero Guinness. The bill came to £121.20, and honestly, for the quality of the food and the standard of the staff, it felt like very good value for money. If we’re in the area again, we’ll definitely be eating here...

  Fabulous food, great service, we really enjoyed our lunch. We came on a Sunday so a different menu but still plenty of choice and some good vegetarian and vegan options. Mains start at around £12 for bar snacks to £30 for more gastro. Lovely beer garden. Plenty of parking. Easy disabled access and toilet. Besides the disabled toilets the toilets are up a flight of stairs tho very clean and tidy. The staff made our visit a great on. Our bill for 4 drinks and 2 mains was £46 and felt like good value. Thumbs 👍 up from us.
