The restaurant is open. They are still doing food. We went for lunch on Thursday 4th of June. They had been closed for a few days for some maintenance work but are now back to normal. Obviously the parent company Whitbread do have plans to close all Beefeater restaurants within the next few months but don’t be put off by online reports that this restaurant has closed for business. It is still open and serving food. We first visited this restaurant over 3 years ago. Since moving over to this area last year we have visited at least 7 to 8 times in the last 10 months or so. So this review is based not just on today’s visit but previous visits as well. I have deleted my previous review to enable me to update this one. Ok Beefeater are never going to get five stars from me but that doesn’t mean I would not recommend this place. Sign up online, take advantage of the offers they will send you and go and enjoy a decent steak at a very reasonable price served by friendly and competent staff. We usually get the 40% off main deals through online. This means you are getting a decent steak for not much above a tenner. There are no hidden extras like service charges so in my opinion it’s great value for money. Plenty of choice on the menu, lots of starters and sides again reasonably priced. You can add these to your main meal and even those with the biggest appetite will be satisfied. Drinks are competitively priced. The wine list isn’t the most extensive but it has a good range and it’s nice to be able to go out and still get a decent bottle of red to go with your steak for under 20 quid. I also like that the wine list tells you the ABV of the wine you are ordering. So few places seem to do that today. On every occasion the food has been pipping hot and they do warm the plates. I do wish other establishments would do the same. I tend to order either the sirloin steak, the steak sampler or the mixed grill. My brother prefers a ribeye. Decent sized portions but obviously at these prices it is not going to be the greatest steak you will ever have. But I definitely have no complaints. And the peppercorn sauce which you can have with your steak is good, a little thin but I’ve always found it tasty with a decent kick. I have to mention the service here. On our most recent visit we were served by Steph and Gemma. First time we have been served by Steph but Gemma has served us on several previous visits. On every visit all the staff, not just these two, have been so helpful and friendly. They do seem to know what’s on the menu and can offer advice on what to order. It really helps improve the experience when you have staff who are prepared to go out of the way to help and make you feel welcome. Little things like popping over to check and ask if everything is okay with your meal goes a long way with me in improving the dining experience. They staff also have been helpful in ensuring that you are getting the best deals and the savings on your meal. On a number of occasions staff has made as aware of some of the deals that they have and have saved us money. So yes I would definitely recommend this place. Decent food with good portions at reasonable prices if you take advantage of the offers. And it’s served by very friendly and helpful staff. It’s just a shame that Whitbread has taken the decision to close this and other Beefeaters. We hope to continue visiting until it does finally close its doors later this year. Best wishes to all the staff and good luck for the future.
