  We booked a table over a week ago and was told our preferred time slot was busy so went later. There had been a function in the afternoon and was also and large party booked 30mins before us. Knowing this management failed to get in sufficient staff even sent a chef home after the afternoon function. This proved to be a terrible decision. Our table had to keep requesting a drinks and food menu and even place settings. After a long wait the food came, the chips were cold as were the bullet garden peas. The scampi and Cumberland sausage were good. This poor service was not the fault of the two servers they did all they could in the circumstances. Poor management of staff rotas was the fault.

  We visited recently, second time since it reopened..we had the lunch club menu, followed by coffee and small dessert. While the food was tasty, we had sausage and mash, when it came the plates were barely warm, causing the food to not be hot, ending up with us eating quickly..not sure if meal was plated up and not brought to our table straight away..not sure why hot food isn't served on a hot plate..we were served by a very pleasant young lady, which is a credit to your establishment..we will be back again, and maybe next time ask if we can have hot plates.

  Sunday lunch quite possibly the best we’ve ever had. Excellent service and friendly staff.

  Just been for Sunday lunch a table of 4. The food could not be faulted beautiful tender beef with prices at very competitive prices. A special mention should be given to the front of house staff with a very special mention given to Lucy's and Sam who couldn't do enough for us ensuring we had everything we needed. Definitely will be booking again highly recomended.

  First visit to The Golden Cock and won’t be the last. The welcome was warm and friendly. Chose from the lunch special menu - great value at £13.50 for meal and a drink. The steak sandwich was spot on, tasty, bread was gorgeous. Friend had the halloumi wrap and really enjoyed it. The pub is done out with a good mix of modern and traditional. Was a bit of a wait to get our food but it didn’t matter - it was nice to chill out in the heat and take a while to stop, catch-up, and when the food came it was hot and fresh. All spot on and looking forward to going back.
