- KBKelly Barton5 days ago1.0Yesterday I visited pembury tesco with my autistic son around 4pm. We had just spent a few hours at the hospital for an appointment for him and he was tired, hot, miserable and restless. I needed to get some vegetables for dinner so I battled with him in the car for us to run in and grab some. My son is 9 years old. On entering the store I stopped to briefly look at the school polo tops for my daughter. Next thing I know your security man approached my son and said 'put a t shirt on' and proceeded to walk a little past us. I looked around and he returned gesturing his and really quite loudly said 'he needs to put a t shirt on ,this is a public place' whilst scowling with disgust. I said ' he's a baby and aside from that he has autism and is really struggling with the heat'. My son at this point had come to stand behind me with the trolley. This still didnt satisfy your security who proceeded to tell me 'listen, just this morning I band a man for not wearing a top'. I told him i can appreciate grown men being topless may not be appropriate as well as myself, however a young child is crazy, especially after I had just explained his complex needs. He eventually walked away. Now firstly, there has to be a better way of approaching people when you don't know their story. I don't appreciate being spoken to in the tone or manner that he did, least of all in front of everyone. The repercussions that followed for me for the rest of the day was a disregulated child caused through your security guards inappropriate and unprofessional approach.
