Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

I ordered through the Greggs app for collection and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. When I arrived, the staff member serving was greeting other customers warmly and saying goodbye as they left. When it was my turn, I explained that I had an app collection. She placed my order on the counter and walked away to serve someone else who was seated, without telling me the order was ready or acknowledging me further. I was left standing there unsure whether the items were mine or if I was still waiting.
Thankfully, another member of staff, a gentleman who came from the back, noticed the situation. He apologised and confirmed that the order was mine, which I appreciated.
As an Asian British customer, the interaction left me feeling overlooked and treated differently. I can’t know why it happened, but it was upsetting, especially after noticing that other customers appeared to receive a warmer interaction. Customer service should be consistent and welcoming for everyone. Sadly, because of this experience, I won’t be returning.

I had a really disappointing experience at Greggs in Dover. The staff were shockingly rude and dismissive. When I asked about the attitude, I was brushed off with “it’s summer, we’re short-staffed.” That’s not an excuse to treat customers with contempt. Being busy doesn’t justify bad behavior. Customers deserve basic respect, even on a busy day. Honestly, this was unacceptable and needs addressing.

Walked in to Greggs at 6pm (an hour before closing) to grab 2 drinks for our seafront walk. A female worker was mopping the floors, and at the sight of me walking through the doors she scowled, let out a huge sigh and then threw the mop she was using across the entire shop. I was very concerned and shocked by this reaction to a customer… and asked why she did this, she responded by swearing at me and telling me she did it by accident (which she definitely did not). In fear of being physically assaulted due to her irate nature towards me, I quickly left the store. I have passed this complaint on to head office but don’t recommend anyone goes into this store until this unstable employee is dealt with. Employee was a blonde 40+ year old woman with missing front teeth.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
