About

BakeryGreggs
Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

The standard in this branch of Greggs is consistently getting worse and worse. Every time I have been in there the standard of cleanliness has been terrible, with messy tables left uncleared and the staff not bothering to do anything about it. And the staff really need to be trained better on how to operate their tills, and how to deal with customers. Good customer service is extremely lacking in this branch of Greggs. On Friday 9th Jan, in the afternoon at around 4pm, I used my o2 Priority voucher to get a sausage roll for £1, and wanted to pay with a gift voucher which I had also received from o2 priority. I have done this many times before in other branches of Greggs and indeed in this very branch of Greggs with a different staff member. The T&Cs on both o2 offers clearly state they can be used together. In every previous instance the staff member pressed the gift card payment option and deducted my gift card with no issues. However on Friday the guy who was behind the till refused to take my gift card, adamant that they cannot be used together and he has worked there for 4 years and they can never be used together. I advised him he was wrong and needed to press the gift card button as everyone else does, before scanning the giftcard, but he still insisted that it wouldn't accept it but never mind he would give it to me for free instead. I tried to tell him that he was wrong, and must be not putting it through the till properly, and that I didn't want it for free, but wanted to pay with my gift card. I advised him that he needed to be trained on how to accept the gift cards alongside the o2 priority deals, but he kept arguing with me to the point that the whole restaurant was getting involved in the conversation and telling me off. When I asked for his name he refused to give it to me. He was adamant he was right and that they cannot be used together, yet he was unwilling to back that up by providing his name. If he was so sure he was right, why not give his name? After I left the restaurant and was standing outside, he proceeded to walk up to the other customers and talk about me, telling them I was in the wrong and he had given it to me for free. After leaving the restaurant I immediately checked my gift card balance using the online checker and in fact he had indeed deducted the £1 charge from my giftcard. Despite that he continued to insist he could not charge the gift card, and had given it to me free, and then gone and rallied the other customers against me. Even if he had been right, there was no need to involve any other customers in our discussion, and especially not go and complain to them about me once I had left and was still standing outside. The manager of this store needs to ensure this member of staff is given training on how to process the o2 giftcards, as well as how to deal with customers properly, and provide good customer service. This has made me think twice about ever visiting this branch of Greggs ever again.

I’m a regular customer at Greggs and I’ve seen a lot over time, but this experience really made my blood boil. A few days ago, I went in for lunch and approached the till. I said hello to Lauren, the Shift Manager, but received no response as she was moving doughnuts from one tray to another. A queue quickly formed behind me, yet she didn’t acknowledge any of us or say something as simple as “I’ll be with you shortly.” Basic customer service and courtesy seemed completely absent. Once she finished, she looked at me with an annoyed expression and said, “Yes?” I placed my order, but there was no politeness throughout the interaction, not even a goodbye. Not to mention the multiple times I have clearly asked for a carrier bag and wasn’t given one, only to receive quick excuses like, “I thought you wanted a takeaway bag.” What is that supposed to mean? The food is already placed in a small paper bag, which is free. If I specifically asked for a carrier bag, where was the misunderstanding? There have also been occasions where staff didn’t pay attention to the order, resulting in the wrong product being given or fewer items than requested. I understand that it can get busy, but these situations should be managed properly; customers shouldn’t be affected by poor organisation. On top of that, the morale and mood of the entire staff seem consistently low. Every time you step in, it feels like there’s no energy or positivity left. I genuinely love Greggs as a brand, but experiences like this are disappointing.

I popped into Greggs at around 6:15pm, roughly 45 minutes before closing. I understand that by that time shelves will be fairly empty, which is completely fair enough. However, the cafe itself was a mess, chairs had already been pulled up and there were drinks spilled all over the floor, which made it feel like customers weren’t really welcome anymore. I ordered a cup of hot chocolate, the staff made it and just left it sitting on the counter. I had to check myself. I get it was near closing time, but a bit of friendliness and basic service would have been appreciated. Sadly, this seems to be a common issue at many Greggs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Greggs

What are your opening times?

Opening times for all Greggs shops can be found on our Shop Finder. Just enter your location into the search bar to find opening times, contact details and available facilities.

What happens to your leftover food?

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations. This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes. In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve. We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection.
