Lovely lunch today with good service from Ashley. Plenty of padron peppers, sourdough and terrine to start. Burgers were good, both beef and Korean chicken and ham hock was huge. I really enjoyed my trout and prawns with sautéed potatoes and broccoli. Good value meal.

It's a shame what's happened to the food. This used to be THE place in St Albans for solid, freshly cooked pub fare, but now, like so many other pubs, it's gone the route of cheap and frozen. One look at the eclectic (confused?) menu will tell you that next to nothing is made in house anymore. It still has the nicest beer garden in St Albans, and the staff are lovely, but I think maybe I'll eat at home next time before popping in for a pint.
