Our third visit to Grannies Heilan Hame... and unfortunately, our last.
Let's start with the positive. The beach is absolutely breathtaking, the beach is 5 stars. It's one of the most beautiful locations in Scotland, and it's the reason we've returned three years in a row.
The park itself has clearly had money invested in it over the years and there have been noticeable improvements. Unfortunately, what lets it down is the customer experience. Whilst the reception staff and the gentleman in the arcade were friendly and helpful, some of the other staff came across as cold, dismissive and rude.
The convenience store is eye-wateringly expensive, even by holiday park standards, and the restaurant food was mediocre at best considering the prices charged.
The biggest disappointment, however, was the "Sea View" caravan. After questioning why our premium "Sea View" overlooked neighbouring caravans, a parked car and the access road, Parkdean explained that:
"A caravan is classified as a sea view caravan where there is a view of the sea from the accommodation."
They also confirmed:
"There is no requirement for the accommodation to be front row or for the sea to be the main aspect..."
Parkdean have told me that "opinions on what constitutes a sea view can vary." I'll let you decide whether you'd call this a sea view.
What disappointed me most wasn't just the view—it was how the complaint was handled. I raised it during our stay, was told it would be looked into, heard nothing back, and after several emails was simply told that was Parkdean's "final position". Not even a gesture of goodwill for a returning customer.
It's such a shame because the location deserves better. We kept coming back because we love the area, but after the way this was handled, we won't be returning.
