We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

- LSLee ScrimshawMay 10, 20251.0Food cold, no vegan sausage rolls or any other vegan options, when asked if any was being cooked or possibly availability staff just shrugged their shoulders and continued their personal conversation, no offer of any milk other than semi skimmed and after long discussions between staff members finally decided decaf coffee was available as milk free option, fortunately we noticed that two decaf coffee bags was in the one cup before it became too strong, coffee was also tepid at best, wouldn't recommend a visit to this branch of greggs, poor offering from greggs franchise especially with lack of milk free alternative options, big thumbs down from me.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
