Came in today for lunch booking. I was called prior to arrival to advise me that they were suffering with gas issues in the kitchen and were running a limited menu. I had the beef pie which was lovely. The limited menu was a shame but I understand issues out of control happen and to be honest what I had was lovely and I probably wouldn't have ordered that on the full menu.
Went in for a late lunch after visiting Braintree Village. We were informed on arrival that there was an issue with the gas supply, so only a limited menu was available, which was absolutely fine and understandable.
Unfortunately, the experience afterwards was very disappointing.
After lifting the first slice of pizza, we found a long hair on the plate/under the pizza. Unfortunately, we did not take a photo at the time, which in hindsight was probably a mistake. I politely mentioned it to a member of staff, not to cause trouble, but simply to let them know. The immediate response I received was “it’s yours”, as they explained there were no female staff working at the time. I found this quite shocking and unprofessional, especially as the hair was already on the plate when the first slice was lifted.
As someone who has previously worked in hospitality myself, I completely understand that mistakes can happen, and I approached the situation calmly and respectfully. What upset me was not simply finding a hair, but the fact that the customer was immediately blamed instead of the matter being handled professionally.
The staff member eventually offered to remake the pizza, but by that point the whole situation had made us feel uncomfortable, so we decided to cancel it and request a refund instead.
A polite apology and a better attitude would have made a huge difference. Very disappointing experience overall.
The small team of staff here are lovely, especially considering they're relentlessly busy greeting, taking orders, making drinks, serving and checking all is okay.
Chris, Louis and Tamsin always deliver great customer service.
We visit frequently because the food is incredibly reasonable and always as expected (Autism-friendly!).
This is a 5* Coeliac-aware establishment - I have always been asked before being seated if there are any food allergies in our party, my order is always taken first and food delivered first and separately (and identified with a discreet marker), and fresh cutlery & napkin is brought to the table. *****
Food was subpar for breakfast. Eggs were raw when I requested poached. Fruit that was with yogurt was sour considering continental is only £2 cheaper it was atrocious. 1x yogurt bowl. Sour tasting fruit. With no selection of fresh fruits/packet muselli/granola. No juice and they wouldn't refill it. So for £9 was 2 spoons of togurt and Luke warm water.

Visited today with my son. Unfortunately we was not very happy with establishment. Everything seems like it’s sticky including the floors, tables and chairs. I was afraid to touch the table due to it feeling slimy. No napkins or cutlery at the table. The staff seem like they are depressed, the young barman needs a little lesson in customer service and upselling. The waitress we had was okay but definitely could do with some training.
On to the building, we came here the play area that has been and I quote “closed for some time” the garden area used to have a park but now sits a Barron piece of tarmac. Which we had to look at the whole time. Why can’t there be a bit of a beer garden, tables chairs umbrellas some plants maybe. See photo. I’m sure you’ll agree with how depressing it is.
No the food and drink. The food is what it is budget that’s why you come here, value for money. The chef does an impressive job of making a microwave seem like an actual griddle has been used. We had mixed grills and got to say ain’t the worst I’ve had. The steak “meh” the drinks machines now I get it but I say child stick there finger to where the drinks comes out and I got to say tipped mine away. The screen is extra sticky and didn’t see anyone wipe it. Overall this place needs an overhaul. It used to be brilliant. I think lake off an area managers attention to this place has let it down to what it could be what it could be, shame !
