Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

Dear Greggs Customer Services,
I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding an incident that occurred today at your High Chelmer branch in Chelmsford at approximately 12:25pm.
I visited the branch with my father. He ordered a cappuccino and I ordered a mango lemonade. While drinking the cappuccino, my father suddenly spat something out and discovered what appeared to be a small curly insect in the drink. I have photographs and video evidence showing the insect clearly.
After discovering it, I picked the insect up using the paper wrapping from the straw so we could inspect it more closely, and it was clearly identifiable as an insect. My father then placed it onto a clean tissue and took it, along with the cappuccino, back to the counter to request a fresh drink.
The matter was then handled very poorly by the manager, MARK. Rather than apologising or treating the issue seriously, he immediately suggested that the insect could not have come from the cappuccino because “there was no coffee on the tissue” and the insect was “dry.” This explanation made little sense, as the insect had been transferred onto a clean tissue after being removed from the drink, and my father had also been waiting in the queue for some time before being served at the till.
We were also extremely unhappy with the dismissive and rude manner in which MARK spoke to my father. He stated, “well you won’t want another one if there’s a bug in it will you,” which came across as sarcastic, unprofessional, and lacking any basic customer care or concern regarding food hygiene. His lack of critical thinking skills is also concerning.
Finding an insect in a hot drink is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns regarding hygiene standards at this branch. The attitude and handling of the situation by the manager only made the experience worse.
I would like this matter formally investigated and would appreciate a response explaining:
• What actions will be taken regarding hygiene and quality control at this branch;
• Whether the incident will be reviewed with the manager involved;
• What resolution Greggs intends to offer following this experience.
Please note that I am also reporting this matter to Trading Standards and the local council environmental health department due to the seriousness of the hygiene concerns involved.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
