We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

- AAAnonApr 1, 20261.0I’m writing this because there are some serious issues here that go well beyond the odd bad visit. The most obvious and consistent problem is the food temperature. Hot food is almost never actually hot. It is regularly cold or barely even warm to the point where it feels like it has been sitting out far too long. What makes this worse is the timing. I visit during a very busy period in the morning when turnover should be high yet the food is already cold. I have then returned again at lunchtime and experienced exactly the same thing. There is no reasonable explanation for hot food to be cold at both peak times of the day. This points to a clear and ongoing failure in holding times temperature control or basic checks. More concerning is what I have personally seen with food handling. Staff in the back area without gloves or any form of hair covering while handling food and then coming straight out to serve. On one occasion a staff member checked the temperature of a bake with their bare hand and then continued to try and serve that same item. On another visit I saw food being picked up with tongs but also coming into contact with the staff member’s hands which were not gloved. This is basic hygiene and it is not being followed. Taken together this points to a wider breakdown in standards supervision and accountability. These are fundamental expectations for any food business and they are clearly not being met here. This needs urgent attention at a senior level. The consistency of the cold food alone is unacceptable but combined with the apparent lack of hygiene it raises real concerns about how this shop is being run. I would strongly recommend a proper review of processes staff training and compliance at this location before it leads to more serious issues.

Steak bakes are ok if warm but lack actual chunks of meat and overall flavour. The breakfast meal deal is good for the money. Quick and convenient, staff are friendly

Ridiculously clueless staff Tips for staff: -When making a latte, heat the milk first!! -A larger paper bag for my 4 sausage rolls is not charged at 10p -Don’t advise customers to buy a packet of croissants from the petrol garage, when you have plenty on your shelves (I am still confused over that one) Gotta love a Gregg’s pastry, regardless of staffing issues. What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
