Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

Visited a couple of times … each time impressed by the super-friendliness of the staff here - with the food being good quality and very reasonably priced, it makes it a nice place to come back to.

If you’re thinking of using the toilets at Greggs, don’t. Honestly, just don’t.
First off, what’s the point of needing a code to get in when it quite clearly feels like it’s been open to absolutely everyone for weeks? The lock gives a false sense of control, because the moment you step inside, it’s obvious no one is actually monitoring or maintaining it.
The cleanliness — or complete lack of it — is beyond shocking. It genuinely makes you question whether it’s ever cleaned at all. The smell hits you immediately and is indescribably bad — not just unpleasant, but the kind that makes you want to leave instantly. The toilet seat itself had what looked like brown or red smears on it (yes, really), and the surrounding area was absolutely filthy. The floor, the base of the toilet — all of it looked neglected to a level that shouldn’t be possible in a functioning business.
And that’s the real issue here: this is a food premises. The contrast between serving food and maintaining facilities like this is honestly alarming. It completely undermines any confidence in hygiene standards overall.
I had my four-year-old with me who needed to use the toilet, and it was such a state that I had to get him to hover and practically beg him not to touch anything. No parent should have to do that in a place that’s meant to be safe and clean.
I’ve genuinely been in cleaner toilets at bus stations — and that’s saying something.
This wasn’t just “a bit messy” or “needs attention.” It was absolutely atrocious. Completely unacceptable. This isn’t just embarrassing — it’s a health violation.
And it doesn’t stop at the toilets. Yes, selling pastries naturally comes with a bit of mess, but this goes far beyond that. The store itself looks like it’s barely ever swept, tables don’t appear to be wiped down regularly, and the bins are consistently overflowing. It gives the impression that basic cleanliness and upkeep just aren’t a priority at all, which only makes the state of the toilets feel even worse.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
