We visited this Subway recently as a family (myself, my husband, and our two children), a place we’ve been to many times before. The manager is usually pleasant to deal with, which is why this experience was so disappointing.
On this visit, we chose to sit in. The manager took a long time preparing the subs and appeared visibly frustrated—throwing utensils, dropping items on the floor, and eventually running out of gloves. While this was uncomfortable to watch, we overlooked it and carried on.
Unfortunately, the jacket potato I ordered didn’t seem right. Something was clearly off. My husband kindly offered to ask if it could be changed. He approached the counter calmly and politely explained the issue. Before we could even ask to swap it for something else, the manager abruptly and loudly said, “So you just want your money back then?” The tone immediately felt aggressive, and my husband, sensing the tension, simply agreed to a refund to avoid escalation.
At that point, the situation completely spiralled. As they walked toward the till, the manager erupted—shouting at us to get out and refusing to give any refund. He screamed in front of our children, reducing our 8-year-old son to tears. He then called the police and began pointing at our daughter, giving them her description, despite the fact she had said nothing and had done nothing wrong other than witness an adult lose control.
We waited for the police, who were calm and fair throughout. They advised us that the best course of action was to leave and document the experience in a review, and to avoid returning.
To make matters worse, when my son attempted to use the toilet, it was in an unacceptable state, with excrement around the seat and basin.
This was a distressing and unnecessary experience, especially for our children. We did nothing more than politely raise a food concern and were met with hostility and shouting. We will not be returning and would advise families to be cautious.
