It's not the most exciting choice, but I always order the same sandwich regardless of location, which makes it easy to compare the quality between different stores. The service was fine, and the atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a service station. One thing I've noticed with Subway over the years is that bread freshness can vary significantly between locations. To try to avoid stale bread, I stopped ordering the Cheese & Herbs loaf and now usually choose Hearty Italian, simply because it seems to be more popular and is therefore more likely to be freshly baked. Unfortunately, this visit was one of the worst I've experienced. The bread was so hard on the outside that it actually made a knocking sound when I tapped it. Fresh bread is one of the most important parts of the Subway experience, so this was really disappointing. I won't be returning to this branch. There's another Subway just five minutes away on the way into Chepstow that's consistently much busier and, in my experience, serves much fresher bread, so I'll be going there instead.
