We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

- MHMaaz Haseen1 day ago1.0After finishing my night shift this morning, I was really hungry, so I went to Greggs for something to eat. I’m vegetarian, and the bacon and cheese & onion items were placed side by side. I mistakenly picked the bacon one and paid for it, then immediately realised my mistake and politely asked the employee if it could be exchanged for the cheese & onion one. I clearly explained that I’m vegetarian, but the employee refused and charged me again. I ended up paying around £7 for one cheese & onion toastie. This isn’t about the money; it’s about the customer service. I also work in a fast-paced environment, and when a customer accidentally picks the wrong item, especially due to dietary restrictions, we try to help where possible. Really disappointed with the way this was handled. Definitely my worst experience at Greggs, and I won’t be visiting again.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
