About

BakeryGreggs
Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

Food is OK. Cookies are def good. Wait time for a snack was too long plus it was really warm in this place.

Located inside Waverley Market, Greggs is one of those places that quietly saves your day when you need quick, affordable food in the middle of a busy city visit. I stopped there during a shopping break and the atmosphere felt lively, with people grabbing coffee, sausage rolls, sandwiches, and pastries before catching trains or continuing around the city centre. What I liked most was how fresh and warm the food tasted despite the place being constantly busy. Their classic sausage roll still deserves the hype, and the hot chocolate paired surprisingly well with the cold Edinburgh weather. I also noticed students and office workers recommending the pizza slices and vegan bakes, so I gave the vegan bake a try and honestly understood why it is popular. The prices are another strong point. Compared to many cafés around Princes Street, Greggs offers filling food without spending too much, which is helpful for tourists and students. One drawback is the limited seating during rush hours. Finding a clean table can become difficult, especially in the afternoon when the market gets crowded. Still, for quick service, budget-friendly snacks, and reliable taste, this branch remains a very convenient stop in central Edinburgh

The chairs are a bit crusty and lots of the tables are dirty.

What happens to your leftover food?

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations. This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes. In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve. We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection.
