- PLPiers Lawson-BrownJun 16, 20265.0What an awesome pub, the establishment itself is just fantastic, being a listed building it retains all of its charm with a small maze of walkways, nooks and bars. We stayed overnight in one of the guest rooms, this was a very nice room indeed, well appointed, although if you have mobility issues you will need to think about it, the stairs are steep and there is a step and low ceiling in the upstairs corridor, but it's a listed building, we loved staying here and really wished we could have stayed longer. Breakfast was very good, portion sizes for the cooked breakfast was just what was needed, along with a good strong coffee. Not only were the staff polite and courteous but the patrons were too, and being a Monday night, it was quiz night and the pub was packed. We really hope to be back one day.

On arrival at 8pm following a long drive the manager was rude and informed me I was late for check-in and lucky to be staying as he was just going home. On my booking confirmation, check in was until 9.30pm. The room was cosy, bed comfortable with a selection of teas and coffees and kettle. Single glazed window overlooking road meant it was quite noisy although ear plugs were supplied. Basin hot tap loose and dripping, shower mouldy in places Bin not emptied from last guest. Pictures and carpet edges very dusty. Breakfast was OK, selection of pastries and bread, cooked breakfasts available Water for tea luke warm and orange juice diluted. Disliked being referred to as 'my queen' by the restaurant staff, bit too familiar. Wouldnt stay again.
