We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

- KCKirsty CrawfordMay 31, 20261.0Sat at the Greggs drive through speaker for what felt like forever, no one spoke at all so I decided to drive around instead to the window. There was one car in front of me that took at least 15 mins before I could then get to the window, no idea what was taking so long. Eventually got to the window asked for my baguette, the gentleman said they didn’t have any left which was fine as understandably they can be busy and run out. I then asked for a pizza slice instead, “none of them left either” he said. I asked for another two different items again he said the same as before so I then said to him, “what do you have left then?” “Not a lot he said”. I asked another time what he had so I could choose something as by this point I was loosing the will with him. He responded, “not much”. So I told him it didn’t matter and drove off. I have been to this Greggs previously and have had no issues at all. This guy completely wasted my time by not telling me what they actually had left?! Anyway I drove to another Greggs along the road and received a much better service and received the baguette I had asked for in the first place 🙈

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
