We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

But they did them right here. The sausage roll was amazing, but that’s to be expected from Greggs. I will miss these a great deal when I leave. Service- My biggest issue was the cashier giving me a nasty look the whole time I was sitting at the table. Made it rather hard to enjoy my food. But she was at least nice enough to go to the back to get me a hot sausage roll when I asked if they had any that weren’t cold. Atmosphere- The tables were all covered in crumbs, as were the seats. But to be fair the worker from the back was walking around cleaning while I was eating. So I will chalk it up to the timing.

However, back in a couple Times as at local other shops for things, popped in, no bales, AGAIN surprisingly - “we only cook so many as not to waste” We have plenty of pizza. Excuse me, if I wanted pizza I’d have asked to it, Shame. So 5 out 4 bad experience. Funny that.

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
