A resplendent thatched-roof Inn, located in the heart of Devon, two miles from the coastal town of Sidmouth. With eight recently renovated rooms, the Blue Ball is a snuggly, seaside treat of a place.
Locally sourced seafood specials are the order of the day, supplied by renowned Cornish fishmonger Flying Fish, coupled with a well-stocked bar of real ales, liveners & pick me ups!
Our cosy corners, eccentric finishing touches and curiosities make for quite the venerable experience. Only heightened by our splendid rear garden which promises to provide a welcome haven.
We had a last minute trip to the area and had two little hungry bellys to feed. After getting turned away from an empty pub that was "fully booked" we chose this beautiful establishment instead. The staff are all very welcoming and the food was amazing. Thank you for having us and our two crazy twins.

Many thanks to the owner and staff (especially the young female member of staff) at the Blue Ball for looking after us so well after we had broken down and were waiting hours for the RAC to turn up. Even when it came time to close the owner ensured we could wait safely in the lobby and waited with us until we were successfully on our way.

Very expensive for what you get. Small portions and definitely not the quality you’d expect for the price — the food tasted frozen rather than freshly made. £28 for 4 ciders was steep too. Had the apple crumble for dessert and it was clearly microwaved as it arrived soggy. Really disappointing overall.didnt stay so can't comment on rooms

We visited with two dogs that we had planned to leave (for a very short time) at our holiday cottage. However, we found that the dogs were not able to be left unattended, so we rang ahead to check if it would be OK to bring them with us. We were told that we would all be welcome and that we could eat in the bar instead of the restaurant. I am so glad that we were able to bring the dogs with us. We were made very welcome by every staff member that we met. The table was already reserved with our name and there was a plate of dog treats and a bowl of fresh water waiting.
My husband and I both had the steak and ale pie which was very nice and tasty. I also liked that each table had a small box containing trivial pursuit cards to encourage people to talk , rather than staring into their mobile phones all evening. I cannot comment on the rooms as we were only visiting. We have already booked to come back for another meal . We were made very welcome and looking forward to returning 😀.

We loved our one night stay at Blue Ball Inn, the room was amazing and very cosy.
Bathroom was perfect and the room had everything you’ll need for the stay.
On top of that the bed is really comfortable (the best one we found during our stay in England).
Fully English Breakfast with lots of other choices and also croissant and pain au chocolat! We loved it!
We didn’t try the restaurant unfortunately for dinner or lunch but should be amazing food as well.
A special thanks to Sam the owner who help us with a car ride while our rental car had a flat tire during Sunday and bank holiday Monday.
Thank you ❤️
