The Star is a must visit every time we come down to Devon. Very welcoming staff and regulars. The food is good. We always try and get down on a Tuesday for the quiz night.

Stopped for a lunch break on a long journey. Food was high quality for a reasonable price, plenty of outdoor seating.

Visited this evening and sadly very disappointed. A nice enough looking pub inside but the service and food were seriously lacking. We had pre booked a table of 6 but despite the restaurant area being quiet upon arrival the table was not ready. We were seated at a table for 4, 5 at best so it was a bit of a squeeze. Food had to be ordered at the bar, no table service. Staff weren't rude or anything but not exactly welcoming. Wasn't enough cutlery on the table for the party and seemed a little hard work obtaining it. The water we asked for was brought to the table but we were told to collect our own beer and wine that had been left on the bar. The food was rubbish. If you are wanting homemade quality food this is not your place. The food is frozen, or simple warmed up food at best. Think pre made Weatherspoon type quality (but not as good). Additionally one of the meals was really over cooked which added to the disappointment. Luckily for us we visited on a night (Wed) which offers a discount on some of the meals so it wasn't overly expensive. If we were paying full price I would have most definitely complained. If your looking for a simple quick eat then I am sure this place is fine and from the blackboard inside the pub they do lots of different offers on various nights which may be of interest. But if your looking for homemade quality food this isn't really the place I am afraid.

Nice pub , shame about the service and attitude that went with it,! We where out with friends, the food came but some of the orders were wrong , when asked why we where told ,thats how it is, and would not change, then we asked for puds , sticky toffee pud , you could have custard or ice cream, we orderd custard, it came it was cold, we asked why , we were told again thats how it is ! in a very rude manner, Who has cold custard on a hot pud !!! Shame ,will not be going back the waitress needs to have some customer service training, rude and unhelpful, she would have been sacked from my pub,

I booked a table for the last sitting on a Sunday afternoon (2.45pm). We were the only people in the restaurant. A live singing event was taking place outside. The food was good, but.... I had to ask for our drinks three times and when they finally arrived, we were three quarters of the the way through our meal. Of course, apologies were expressed. When we ordered dessert I was informed that the kitchen had closed and therefore no desserts were available. We were left embarrassed. There was no prior notice that the kitchen was closing. The waitress was, of course, apologetic. This was a family event that was spoiled. I've booked a table at The Star numerous times before (eg a table for 7, 3, 5, 4, etc) and have never been treated so poorly. We finished our drinks (!) and left. There are so many pub restaurants in the immediate area. Perhaps I will patron one of those in future.
