Such a perfect little spot. The bar staff are super, especially the guy “who doesn’t normally work the bar and works in the kitchen” have been working so hard, making each customer feel welcomed and a priority. Super service on such a hot and busy day.
The evening meal halls been great. we had steak and Stilton pie with extra gravy, which has been really nice and the rooms with complimentary night cap are great.
I would definitely recommend for a drink or bite to eat or stop over. A little bit of luxury at an affordable price. Thank you

We were really unhappy with the service. After a tiring journey, we stopped by to get some food and were initially welcomed by a nice lady. However, we could clearly see other staff members happily assisting and seating other customers, while we were left standing around trying to find a place to sit ourselves.
When we politely asked if we could sit at a proper table instead of the pub tables, we were abruptly turned away. The response felt rude, and the staff member didn’t even properly look at us or try to help us find a place to sit. It honestly felt like they didn’t care about our business or whether we stayed at the pub at all.
Very disappointing experience.

Me and my partner came here for a lite snack after having the day around chatsworth house, and luckily we did. We originally greeted and experienced a warm welcome and started off in the bar just with some bar snacks ( which were utterly delicious) thus decided to read the menu and decided we’d try their new menu launch as there was a wide range of options that we did like. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Devonshire arms with a truly amazing atmosphere and great food complimented by welcoming and attentive staff , would definitely recommend and will be returning very soon
Oh my gosh , this place is utterly amazing, me and my partner have passed here a few times in previous years and its been questionable however it only used to be a one night stay for us . We came in this sunday for the first time in ages , fresh new faces welcoming faces may i add , the place had totally changed to a warm welcoming bar area full of chatty people , bar man was lovley he knew a lot about wines ect, after we got a drink from the bar we moved to the restaurant for our booking , blimy was it busy haha, it was lovely to see, when we were seated a waitress came over to explain its was busy and they had a party who pre ordered so there might be a wait on the food however it would come out as soon as possible, she then directed us to have a few nibbles , myself and my partner decided to go with a sunday roast for our mains and oh my days the beef was amazing the food was red hot the roast potatoes were lovely and that gravy was to die for , service was impeccable very attentive , staff clearly communicated with one another and with the customers. Unfortunately a table near us clearly quite snobby people complained however the waitress communicated with them when food would be out ect and apologised for the wait , however like the staff did with us they told the customers that they were busy and food would be out as quick as possible. Other than that one table who decided to try and bring the staff down and clearly want a discount or free meals our experience was amazing ,food and service aswell as location , we will definitely be back and definitely be recommending this place to everyone we know , look forward to seeing you soon!
Don't make the same mistake we did! The rooms make this look like a boutique hotel, but its very far from it, in spite of the high room price. Its right on a busy road, the staff are ambivalent at best and the restaurant feels like you're in a Toby Carvery. We stayed here for my wife's birthday recently for a night in the Peak District, looking for something special, but got the opposite.
All 5 x Sunday Roast options had sold out by 6:45pm leaving the choice of only a pie, as I didn't want a burger (3 options). The venison pie was pretty good to be fair, but we really were scratching around to find anything on the menu to order, and my wife's salad was an overpriced tragedy. The service was also slow and clearly just going through the motions, rather than adding much value to the overall experience.
The rooms are the high point and we were away from the road in a quiet room overlooking a stream, but the corridor outside was very hot and stuffy, and it was noisy with people talking, etc until after 10pm.
Breakfast the following morning was as unedifying as dinner the night before. Self-serve coffee and overdone poached eggs. The lady on the table next to us had had an awful night's sleep as a manhole cover on the road directly outside her room clanged loudly every time a car went over it, and to add insult to injury they had run out of tomatoes for her breakfast, and extra mushrooms didn't cut it for her as she doesn't like them. She was very unhappy, particularly as unlike us she was staying multiple nights and couldn't escape as quickly as possible.
Overpriced & underwhelming - strong suggestion from our experience to avoid!
