Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.
I've been to the store about 5 times during opening hours and it's always closed, what's going on?

Honestly Greggs deserves way more credit than it gets because it never disappoints. I’ve been going for years and it’s still one of the best places to grab food when you want something quick, cheap and actually nice. The sausage rolls are elite for a reason, the bakes are always so good, and even the sandwiches and pizzas are genuinely better quality than people expect. Everything always tastes fresh and warm and you can tell why it’s constantly busy.
What I love most is that Greggs manages to stay affordable when everywhere else is charging ridiculous prices for basic food. You can actually get a full meal and a drink without feeling robbed afterwards. Their iced drinks and coffees are surprisingly good too and honestly better than some expensive coffee places.
The staff always seem rushed off their feet but still manage to serve everyone quickly and keep things moving. Every Greggs has that same reliable feeling where you already know the food is going to be good before you even order. It’s literally become part of British culture at this point and deservedly so. Greggs has genuinely saved me on so many mornings, lunch breaks and random cravings. Absolute 10/10 every time.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
