We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

I asked a staff member what the sausages were like because previously they were rock solid and overcooked. She just stared at me, didn't even respond. Extremely awkward store, miserable staff who don't give a damn and awful awful food. AVOID. Head office should visit this store, should not be allowed to carry the Gregg's name. I'm APPALED at how bad this Gregg's is.

She was kind, polite, friendly, and very professional. She greeted every customer with a smile, served everyone efficiently, and made the whole experience enjoyable. The prices are a little higher than at some other Greggs shops, but the excellent service, clean environment, and convenience of the location make it well worth the money. Vivega is a real credit to the Greggs team and truly deserves more than 5 stars. Thank you for such wonderful service—I’ll definitely be coming back!

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
