Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. As usual, Gregg's offers excellent breakfast choices such as overnight oats, coffee, and tandoori pizza. The service from employees is not good. Not all, some, mostly, no one works at weekends.

Visited during Easter and had a terrible experience. The staff couldn’t manage the transaction process but chose to blame the customers instead. They were rude, rolled their eyes at us, and even blamed us for the long queue behind. Very unprofessional, I will not be coming back.

There was this woman who was really rude to customers, I was first in queue and she gave me an attitude, then rolled her eyes at my friend, blamed the fact they didn't have enough change on the customer, such a disrespectful person to not only customers but to her colleague who tried to help her piecing enough change back, will not be visiting again, filed a complaint both on site and on call

At approximately 10:30am today, I visited the store to purchase two sausage rolls and paid with a £20 note. The staff member (An Asian Indian woman?)serving me did not indicate any issue with this at the time of payment. However, after taking the cash, she realized she did not have sufficient change and began asking colleagues for assistance. As the store was busy, there was a delay in getting help.
I offered to provide coins or change my method of payment, but I was told this was not possible because the £20 had already been put into the till. During this time, the staff member appeared visibly impatient, despite the situation not being caused by me.
When a colleague eventually assisted, I was initially given incorrect change (£5.40 instead of the correct amount). I had to point this out, after which the staff member called for help again to retrieve the remaining £10.
Additionally, during the process, the staff member briefly left to serve another customer while I was still waiting, and I had to remind her that I had not yet received my food. When she finally served me, she spoke in an unfriendly tone and incorrectly asked if I had ordered one sausage roll instead of two.
Most concerningly, she then told me that, given it was a busy Easter morning, I should not have paid in cash and that the situation was my fault for causing delays for other customers. I found this comment inappropriate and unprofessional. If there was an issue with accepting cash due to lack of change, this should have been communicated clearly before the transaction was processed.
Overall, I felt the staff member was rude, impatient, and lacked basic customer service skills. I did not respond at the time as I was taken aback by her attitude, but I believe this behavior falls below the standards expected from your company.
After she said that to me, everyone in line was shocked and didn't understand his behavior.
I hope you will take this feedback seriously and ensure appropriate staff training is provided to prevent similar situations in the future.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
