  We visited The Halfway House on the first day of our trip to Cornwall and enjoyed it so much that we ended up going back on our last evening too! The menu had a great choice of proper home-cooked food. I had the cottage pie on our first visit, which was absolutely delicious, it was simple, hearty, tasty comfort food. My boyfriend had the ham hock, and honestly, it was incredible! So tender it melted in your mouth, full of flavour without being too rich, and served with the most perfectly golden, crunchy fries. We couldn't stop talking about how good it was! We were determined to go back before the end of our trip, and we're so glad we did. This time I had the ham hock, and they were more than happy to swap the pineapple for two eggs and the salad for vegetables. Such a lovely touch and great service. My boyfriend had the dirty burger, which looked amazing, with so many layers and flavours that somehow worked perfectly together. It's so refreshing to find a pub that genuinely delivers what you'd hope for a welcoming, homely atmosphere, lovely service, generous portions and delicious home-cooked food at reasonable prices. The Halfway House really made our trip to Cornwall that little bit more special. Thank you for two fantastic meals! We'll definitely be coming back next time we're in Cornwall. Highly recommend!

  Sunday carvery: really impressed and I visited expecting little considering my experience some years ago under different management. Every item on the carvery is selected was of good quality. Beef was tender and tasty, potatoes were NOT deep fried and really good. Staff friendly and this venue has improved from previous experiences.

  Went here for dinner on Monday night, and was served by James (I believe). He was very accommodating whilst serving us. I got a lasagne which was delicious and my partner got the chicken and ham pie, which he said was “the best pie he has had in VERY long time”. The desserts were lovely too. Would defo recommend this lovely little pub for both food and drinks!

  Came here for dinner the other night as we were staying local. Although the pub wasn’t overly busy, service was slow as there seemed to be only 2 staff working the bar & tables. They were both friendly and helpful, but I think more staff was needed as they were clearly rushed off their feet as I had to go up to the bar to order more drinks and again to order dessert. Lovely pub though with plenty of parking and we all found the food to be delicious and we would come again.
