About

BakeryGreggs
Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

There's a thick layer of dust, pubic hair, and fecal matter, or possibly vomit, all over the rim of the uncleaned toilets, accompanied by a strong smell of ammonia from the urine. The same layer of dust can be said for all surfaces, including the taps which I was scared to touch, since I'm sure my hands would have been dirtier than before having washed them. The sign invites customers to let the staff know, but I honestly don't think they care because despite it most probably being a policy or assigned task somewhere, it's clearly not being done, at all, ever. And for a food handling restaurant, hygiene is more important than anywhere. The cleaner board is empty, which also had a layer of dust on there, I started to feel like I was exploring an abandoned toilet. Disgusted. Furthermore, someone tried to pull on the door while I was using it, which caused the feable lock to fall open, due to it being semi-broken.

This has to be the worst Greggs I frequent (it’s my nearest) the reason for it being the worst is, there is nearly always a massive queue due to so few staff serving. I. Additional to the lack of staff, the hot section is very regularly bare. Today’s visit (just after 1pm, thus very much still lunch time) was by far the worst. There were hardly any sandwiches remaining, the hot section was empty (switched off) and the pastry section was equally as bad. I wish I could say this is a one off, but it’s all too regular. The staff themselves always seem pleasent and friendly. But if you are looking for a quick in and out with options to chose from, be prepared to be potentially disappointed on both counts.

I've called in twice as part of a break in a journey on a Sunday morning and both times been told there have been no sausages available as part of the breakfast option. Both times were slightly before 10.30 and the shop had a steady flow of people. Most ended up having to get something else, as I did the first time. The second time I simply left and went to Home bargains cafe instead and had one of their breakfast baps.

Frequently Asked Questions About Greggs

What are your opening times?

Opening times for all Greggs shops can be found on our Shop Finder. Just enter your location into the search bar to find opening times, contact details and available facilities.

What happens to your leftover food?

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations. This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes. In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve. We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection.
