- 0B0151 BolaOct 5, 20264.0First visit to Kirkby Stephen and managed to visit a few watering holes , not all , that will happen on my next visit in a few weeks time but this pub was my favourite . Really chilled atmosphere , which cannot be said about another not too distant pub but that was on a Saturday afternoon and was just a bunch of lads letting off steam after a hard weeks work. They were farmers and fond of the ladies by the tales I couldn’t help but overhear. Fine by me but a little embarrassing for the wife and she’s no prude. But back to the Black Bull. Best pint of John Smiths iv had by far . Very reasonably priced. Didn’t try the food and couldn’t see it as it’s served in a separate adjacent room . Barman was friendly and when I complimented him on the beer told me that they take a pride in the cellar and particularly keeping the lines clean. Lovely and cosy with relaxing music , very comfy seating and a log fire. Dog friendly too. Just perfect , what a real pub should be. Cannot wait to return

- 1F105 FairwaysSep 21, 20264.0Great location if you’re walking the C2C, right in the middle of Kirkby Stephens. Good size room and bathroom and a great shower. Food is mediocre pub food (fish and chips, burgers and microwave lasagne), and they do a Sunday roast although the kitchen shuts early on a Sunday. There’s also an Indian, Chinese and pizza place in town. Breakfast was served at 0900, which was way too late for us and packed lunch wasn’t really on the cards but there’s a great sandwich bar across the road (Brysons) and they’re open at 0800. The WiFi is pretty rubbish.
