Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

I visited on Saturday 13 June 2026 at 11:34 hrs .
I availed of the £5.25p offer ie A main, A side and A drink. I opted to sit down.
I requested a cup for my drink. I was told that cups were reserved for hot drinks.
I suggested to the very hostile lady behind the counter to charge me for the cup if she wished to do so. The lady whose name is Sharon charged me instead for a Regular Tea at £1.50p. Making the total after offer £6.75p. I declined the tea and it was voided. I requested a receipt, which was provided. Here is the breakdown on my receipt.1 x Fanta Fruit Twist 500 ml £1.90p 1 x Southern Fried Chicken Goujons £3.75p 1 x Southern Fried Potato Wedges £1.50p 1 x Regular Tea Void Promotional Summary * 1 x Goujon & Cold Drink (3 part) -£1.90p Total £5.25p Card Payment £5.25p VAT 20% There are two points - - The lady's attitude was completely negative and was likely triggered by my being non caucasian (yet beside her today was a non caucasian person wearing a Greggs uniform ) - I do not out of choice use the Greggs App. The unwillingness to provide a cup is in stark contrast to other Greggs in Carlisle where you can sit down and who gladly provide a cup. The lady Sharo who served urgently needs training and handling diverse customers. Over selling can be as detrimental to Customer Relations.
Please see pics x 5 (five) attached. Both sides of a Heinz Sweet Chilli Sauce unopened. Both sides of the empty plastic container of a used Heinz Sweet Chilli Sauce.
I chose to drink the contents of the 500 ml Fanta Fruit Twist using the empty Heinz Sweet Chilli Sauce container which took considerably longer than if I had used a cup as I do in any other Greggs outlet.
The cost in time to Greggs to a seat at a table being occupied by me for the time it took to safely finish the 500 mls Fanta Fruit Twist drinking it safely using the empty Heinz Sweet Chilli Sauce container was an hour and a half.
The lady Sharon at Greggs Penrith failed to understand or comprehend that an elder using a narrow mouth 500 ml plastic bottle to drink from risks the liquid being inhaled.
AND two days previous nearly the same experience in the same Greggs outlet and the same staff member.
Please see below.

I opted to sit down since a seat became vacant. I requested a cup for my drink. I was told that cups were reserved for ??? I suggested the hostile lady behind the counter charge me for the cup if she wished to do so. I requested a receipt, which was provided.
Here is the breakdown on my receipt.

1 x Southern Fried Chicken Goujons £3.75p
1 x Southern Fried Potato Wedges £1.50p
1 x Handled Paper Bag £0.10p (not supplied but must have been the charge for the cup which was supplied but is not itemised)
Promotional Summary

Total £5.35p
Card Payment £5.35p

There are two points -
- The lady's attitude was completely negative and was likely triggered by my being non caucasian
- The receipt shows some issues which must make it a nightmare for external financial auditers. Obviously costing Greggs more.
I do not out of choice use the Greggs App.
The unwillingness to provide a cup is in start contrast to other Greggs in Carlisle where you can sit down who gladly provide a cup.
The lady who served urgently needs training and handling diversity and use of the "Till" (ie correct button)

Very small shop. Sometimes staff stand around talking without serving, otherwise it ok, typical for a Greggs store
Opening times for all Greggs shops can be found on our Shop Finder. Just enter your location into the search bar to find opening times, contact details and available facilities.
What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
