- JSJeremy ShawSep 2, 20261.0Absolutely appalling service at Greggs, Knutsford Services. I have just visited Greggs at Knutsford Services, where there are two separate Greggs counters/stores. I was genuinely shocked by the complete lack of hot food and, more importantly, the attitude of the staff. Neither counter had any freshly prepared hot food available. There were no Steak Bakes, despite being told that these take around 18 minutes to cook. When I asked whether any more were being prepared, the response from the staff was essentially that they don’t cook any more food until they have sold everything they already have, because the service station wasn’t busy. This resulted in a ridiculous situation where there were only a handful of items available — essentially a few pasties and cold/older sausage rolls — with nothing being prepared in the ovens. What made the experience particularly disappointing was the attitude. There appeared to be no interest whatsoever in providing customer service or trying to accommodate a customer. Both members of staff I spoke to simply shrugged their shoulders and appeared completely unconcerned. I appreciate that Knutsford Services was extremely quiet at the time, but surely that is precisely when a business should be making some effort to provide the customers who are there with the products they actually want to buy. If Greggs’ policy at this location is effectively “we don’t cook anything else until we’ve sold everything we’ve got”, then customers shouldn’t be surprised when they can’t buy anything and simply go elsewhere. I’ve used Greggs many times, but this was one of the poorest experiences I’ve had. Two Greggs outlets in the same service station, neither prepared to cook food for customers, and staff who seemed completely indifferent to the situation.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
