We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

- JJJMar 2, 20261.0Thanks to the young lad Harry. How do you guys have a team of x3 members of staff on and only 1 team member serving the customers with a Que of 10/15 people on a Monday morning. And still managed to run out of bacon. Shockingly run Greggs poor management at its finest. The place is poorly organised and messy with the exception Harry who was doing his best.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
