Compared with the Hatters Retail Park and Leagrave branches, the service here is consistently the slowest and the customer service is the worst. Staff often appear to be moving around, but orders remain backed up and very little seems to be getting completed efficiently. The drive-through queue is regularly extremely long, and the whole operation feels disorganised. Management seriously needs to review staffing levels, training and how orders are managed during busy periods. They need competent, properly trained staff who can work efficiently and communicate with customers, because the current service is a mess.

I hate writing reviews like this but after genuinely eating at the restaurant (breakfast then an additional coffee), before a meeting with customers I spent about an hour in store working…only to receive a parking fine of £60/£100…paying to park would not have been a problem as a work expense, so had signs or the staff in side prompted me I would have just paid. Now I’ll admit after a stroke last year I do suffer from brain fog here and there but my feelings around these fines are, that I have no reason to avoid paying for parking as it’s not my cost, and if I (of relatively sound mind) can miss these instructions then I’m sure I’m not alone. I know a 1 ⭐️ is not going to impact even the smallest McDonalds branch but it’s my message to say employing these companies is a cancer on society penalising (normally loyal) customers for a minor indescretion will stop me visiting you branch again, and I hope others decide to speak up to!

Visited during breakfast on 11/7/26 and had a strange encounter with a member of staff. I placed my order and then proceeded to the window where I had my app open and ready for my QR code to be scanned to collect points. The girl serving me takes the code and then says “next time can you give me the code before placing your order it makes my life so much easier thank you” her tone was condescending and abrupt and I believe she expected me to say something like “Oh I’m sorry, yeah sure next time I will” or some responce to feed her ego and make her feel like she done something here. Unfortunately for her, I’m inquisitive so I challenged her statement and simply asked “Why out of all the staff members I’ve encountered at this branch are you the only one who’s ever said this to me? (She couldn’t give me an answer) I then asked “What difference does it make when I give the code?” She then immediately turns herself into a victim and repeatedly said “I’m just asking if you could give your code before, why are you being rude?” (Baring in mind my tone was calm, voice didn’t raise once and I literally simply enquired why she specifically requested this.) I continued to ignore her attempts to paint me as a difficult customer and continued to seek clarity on her reasoning behind her request (still no actual answer given, just buzzwords thrown about) I then pointed out to her that there’s literally a scanner at the till for staff to scan customers QR codes. (This proves that giving the code prior to placing the order is not actually necessary) it may be her preference but her preference isn’t important or the QR codes/scanner literally wouldn’t be an option. After a few moments of getting no actual answer as to why she initially scolded me, her playing obtuse, her accusing me of being “rude” and placing herself in the position as a victim she proceeds to say “I’ve had a hard day, why are you being like this” bursts into tears and then walks off crying. A few moments later a manager comes to the window to take payment. I ask him “what was that about?” And he said “I have no idea I was just told to finish your order” he apologised on her behalf which was kind considering he didn’t know what had taken place (I didn’t bother into detail and explain what happened because I couldn’t care less and just wanted my food at this point) but overall I was genuinely confused and found the entire ordeal laughable. It was totally avoidable and self inflicted. Making customers feel as though they are being an inconvience for no justifiable reason isn’t acceptable. I didn’t place an app order, I placed a regular order at the speaker but wanted to scan my code to collect points. No big deal. No reason for her to ask me in a blunt and condescending tone to do this differently next time and absolutely no reason for her to weaponise her tears when challenged. I hope she reads this review and learns from this encounter. 1) Don’t go looking for problems because you simply feel like it. 2) Don’t be a mean girl and 3) If your going to be a mean girl stand on it. Don’t run off crying when it doesn’t quite go your way. I don’t conform to your tears :)
