Esquires is a nice spot if you’re looking for a relaxed, dog-friendly coffee shop. The coffee was genuinely good — definitely the highlight of the visit. The food was acceptable, nothing particularly memorable but perfectly fine for a quick bite. Service was quite slow, especially during busier periods, so it’s not the best choice if you’re in a rush. That said, the welcoming atmosphere and being able to bring dogs along made it an enjoyable place overall.
This was my second visit here and last. I wasn't impressed with the first visit... Lukewarm weak so called breakfast tea and burnt toast that was hiding under the beans I had. So I thought i would give them the benefit of the doubt. The second visit was no better lukewarm tea that had hardly any taste and a black coffee that was also lukewarm. Very very disappointed ☹️

I had a really unfortunate experience in esquires. I ordered an iced matcha oat latte with raspberry and white chocolate (a seasonal drink) and what I got was really disappointing. While I was making my order the baristas behind the counter were arguing about how to make it, one saying it was too much syrup, the other saying they put the matcha in at the wrong time, it was clear they were unfamiliar with this drink or had been trained differently. The matcha was obviously not prepared properly and was really lumpy and gritty in my drink as seen in the pictures attached. I actually felt quite nauseous after drinking it which I have never experienced with matcha before. I wouldn’t recommend this place for matcha, the atmosphere was ok and the staff were nice but for £6.20 this was a poor experience.

We've been along to this new store in Ely a few times now - the positives are that it has been decorated really nicely
and the staff are in general friendly.
But the problem is friendliness does not equal good service. Each time we've been in we've waited an age for both our coffees and food. They seem to only ever have one person making coffee and they are easily overwhelmed. They really need two people making coffee to handle the surges. One time we had to wait 30 minutes for a couple of flat whites, that's not really acceptable.
The last time we went in I ordered a sausage roll and they offered to heat it up. First they claimed it would be served with my coffees, but no (and I had to query where it was). Then they gave me a numbered spoon for the table and it would be brought to me. But 20 minutes later nothing - it should only take 5 seconds to zap the thing! By that point we had finished our coffee and had to go, so we took it cold to go. The server was very apologetic, but it was obvious they'd forgotten it.
At this point we won't be back until we hear the service and speed have improved. It's sad as otherwise this would be a nice place to go.
One last aside - notice how at the time of writing this review there's been not a single response to any of them? That tells you how much the management of this store care about these issues.

Visited today as it's new and I thought why not give it a go. Wish I hadn't bothered. Long delay in getting the drinks and it wasn't that busy. Then advised they'd run out of milk, despite there being a supermarket no further an 100 feet from them. Never mind my Americano duly arrived, if you can call a cup of muddy brown water with no hint of coffee an Americano. Not all was lost however. A very nice lady said she'd replace it with not a single quibble in sight. Things were looking up, my expectations were raised .....to be promptly dashed by receipt of another cup of muddy brown water which did have a hint of coffee. By hint I mean it had probably been in the near vicinity of some coffee beans but had for some reason decided to have nothing to do with them. I know the shop is new but this isn't rocket science.
With disappointment in my heart I retired to my humble abode and consoled my self with a delicious Americano served by my trusty Tassimo. First picture is of the one from the shop, the second is homemade...
