After a day of watching telly and eating soup in bed, I decided to walk from my home to the local coop and arrived at a crisp 7:24 to try and soften the blow of a lonely Friday evening with some form of alcohol. I lazily and reluctantly dragged my pijama-ed, slipper-ed and scruffy self to the door of what can only be described as the 9th level of the inferno, and by this I don’t mean the shop was warm, I mean the energy in there was probably what made Prince William go bald. After finding myself in mental agreement with Dante about his afterlife theories, I trudged up to the counter and spoke the words: “Hi could I get a bottle of-“ before I was rudely interrupted by an employee. He asked to see identification and I obliged immediately, I pulled my provisional driver’s license from my pocket and held it out for him to inspect. Before I even had a chance to realise what was going on I hear the voice of this employee spilling lies into my very own ears, “You were here earlier with two boys”, now I know what you’re thinking…”she obviously hasn’t been at the coop today because she’s been in bed all day”…he unfortunately was not on OUR wavelength. I then calmly tried to explain to him that I hadn’t left my house all day, as if it wasn’t already obvious, and he somewhat aggressively repeated the allegation to me. At this point I have become mildly irate with the bloke and try to explain more firmly this time that I have in fact not entered this sub par locale with these two imaginary people which he responds to with, “I have a good memory I would remember if you’d been here and you have”, ironic because he was entirely wrong, and THEN asked me to LEAVE THE PREMISES?! As if it wasn’t enough of a bad experience to enter the damn place I was now being told to leave. I exited through that nasty sliding door disheartened and empty handed, with a bubbling frustration in my soul. It didn’t take long for me to turn around from my walk home and try to save whatever remained of my dignity after being humiliated in front of what appeared to be a handful of upper middle class women shopping for supper the first time I had been there. So I found myself back in the Grantchester Street eyesore/abomination that they like to call coop, attempting to find a way to reason with the chap who previously suggested I head down to the Shell petrol station down the road. I approached with a neutral tone and stated ONCE MORE that I had not been in this place with anyone today and he cut me off with a speed that Lewis Hamilton could only dream of. “Yes you were I saw you here with two boys”, after this I managed to get a few words out to say I wasn’t here to buy anything this time, only to set the record straight and deny this apparent apparition which he swore had conjured itself into his precious food shack, completely missing the point he raised his voice and dared to say “You can buy something just not alcohol”. It took everything in me to remain civil from this point onwards. I reiterated the fact I was not here to buy ANYTHING and then swore on the lord (I’m an atheist but people tend to believe you when you swear on the imaginary fella) that I had not been there with two boys! None of my attempts to appeal worked and I was again asked to leave the shop. I stormed home with only the hatred coursing through my veins and the creativity in my mind to try and put even half of what I felt into words on a google review. I will be boycotting this rat-hut for the foreseeable future and advise all those who see this to do the same. Unfortunately there’s no option for zero stars so I’ve had to generously donate a single star to this place, not that they are deserving of anything above zero. Power to the people. This isn’t over yet.

Terrible customer service - assistant charged me twice for the item I was trying to buy, and then wouldn't give it to me because he insisted the sale hadn't registered.

This is THE only little shop in the area and it’s absolutely appalling. I know we are not in France, so I don’t expect delicious bakery or fine wine - but the place sells no oranges and NOTHING delicious. The veg is tired. The staff is uninterested. It’s such a shame. I hope more boutique small businesses open next door and show you how it’s done.

Good selection of products. Service ok. Very narrow aisles, would make it a struggle for a buggy or wheelchair.
