  Chips could have done with being cooked for a couple extra minutes. Fish was pretty much perfect. Curry sauce is completely the wrong type of curry sauce for a fish and chip shop. Ideal if it was a Chinese but a Chinese style curry sauce has no place in a fish and chip shop.

  Chips are awful. I ate at 17.30 and the chips were like it was the end of the night. All bits and scraps. Dry. Also they dont do the plant based fillet anymore . And that was met with shrugs. Will not ever go again

  Ever since this place employed what appears to be just teenagers with minimal supervision, the quality has dropped massively. We bought chips for 10 people at the weekend and every single box had undercooked, pale chips. It was like this when we last came a couple of months ago, but we thought it may have just been a one off. It wasn't. Both times have been when the place only has the teenagers serving who are more interested in chatting than doing their job. The chips from here used to be perfect, now they are awful. Either train your staff properly as for these kids it is probably their first job, or only employ experienced people. We won't be coming back again.

  Churchill's Bar Hill makes genuinely excellent fish and chips. This review is not about the food. I was part of the same party, whose review sits at the top of this page. Everything he wrote is accurate. I am writing about what came after. We raised a formal complaint. Over three weeks, Churchill's customer service team: demanded a screenshot of a telephone pre-order; impossible by definition; raised their service dog policy despite our dogs remaining in the car throughout, unseen by any member of staff, and entirely irrelevant to the complaint; relied on six-week-old staff recollection from a busy bank holiday service rather than reviewing their own call recordings; and closed the case with no apology, no goodwill gesture, and a conclusion that no departure from procedure had occurred. Their final letter acknowledged a "misunderstanding" and denied all responsibility in the same breath. It also stated the dining area was already being cleaned when we arrived. Two families were seated and eating when we arrived. Both cannot be true. The owners have worked hard to build Churchill's into something worth driving across Cambridgeshire for. We know this because we did exactly that. What the complaints process revealed is a profound gap between that brand promise and the reality of how this business treats customers when things go wrong. Our Good Friday Family evening was ruined. When we raised it, Churchill's doubled down. All five members of our party are now posting reviews. Each covers a different dimension of this failure.
