Went here on a very hot Tuesday night for my very first time at a Five Guys, eager to see what the hype is all about.
Ordering is done on a touchscreen screen, which I personally find a bit impersonal. It’s becoming the standard affair across a lot of restaurants these days, but it does take away any sense of a premium experience and demotes it to a basic fast-food feel.
The venue itself was clean, well-lit, and very inviting. The large front doors were propped wide open, which unfortunately meant there was little reprieve from the heat outside. The kitchen area is completely open, allowing you to watch your food being prepared. While that's usually a nice touch, it did mean a lot of extra heat was venting directly into the seating area. Combined with the summer weather, it was clearly taking a toll on the staff, leading to some visible confusion in the kitchen (which turned out to be foreshadowing!).
When the food arrived, it came packed in a mountain of brown paper bags—a bit of an interesting choice considering I was dining in.
The fries, however, are everything they are cracked up to be and were absolutely delicious. The burger was wrapped in unmarked foil, and when I opened it, it clearly wasn’t what I had ordered.
I raised this with the staff, who were extremely apologetic. They immediately grilled up an entirely new burger for me and offered a free bottomless soda while I waited. While I know a soda is an inexpensive item for the restaurant, it was a gesture that was much appreciated given the heat. It made me wonder what would happen if the order had been for delivery, but since I was right there in the restaurant, it turned out to be a non-issue.
Once the correct burger arrived, it was great. The portion sizes are respectable, too, which is a nice change given the shrinkflation happening everywhere else these days.
Overall, despite the initial mix-up, the team handled it perfectly and turned it into a good experience
