After spending over an hour shopping with my toddler, I went to the self-checkout with my shopping already scanned. I had coupons on specific items which were due to expire that day, and these appeared on the scanner for me to accept. Before I had the opportunity to do this, a member of staff approached and began pressing buttons on the scanner for no apparent reason whatsoever. She skipped past the coupons before I had a chance to accept them. I explained several times that I was trying to use the coupons that had appeared on the scanner, as they were expiring that day. However she made out that she did not understand what I was referring to and began talking about 10% off coupons for a full shop available through the app, which was not what I was asking about. This went on for some time with her then telling me I needed the app to apply coupons and asking several times if I had used 10% coupons before and did I know how to access them. I just wanted to apply my expiring coupons which she had skipped past! She obviously knew what she had done, was aware she couldn’t return to the coupons so thought she would cover herself with the 10% off a full shop nonsense. Fortunately I am not completely dim and knew exactly what she was doing. She then called another colleague for assistance, but neither member of staff was able to return to the coupons that had been skipped. What I found frustrating was that the first member of staff then stated that I had told her I had never used the self-scanning system before and didn’t know what I was doing. This was simply not true. I had only asked whether the tills on the left were available for self-scanning. I had not said that I was unfamiliar with the system or that I didn’t know what I was doing. She also stated that it was her job to come over and “press buttons” which baffled me. In the end, I walked out without my shopping. The two members of staff standing on like they had no idea what they had done. Still unsure why this lady felt the need to approach me and start pressing buttons on my scanner without me asking for any assistance whatsoever!
