We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

I was served by a lovely young man named Jakub, and I felt it was important to share how wonderful the experience was. Jakub was kind, sweet, and incredibly polite, with outstanding customer service. He treated me with patience and genuine warmth, making me feel truly welcome and valued. His friendly manner and professionalism brightened my day more than he could know. He is a real credit to the shop, and I hope he receives the recognition he deserves. I will certainly be returning.

Got to the happy server at the window who proceeded to hand me the bag with no sausage rolls. Asked what about the sausage rolls he then went to check and came back saying 11 minutes. Advised maybe the person taking the order should have advised that, he said they did. He said would you like a refund then! I get that working on a Sunday is not where you want to be but maybe have a wee smile or have some manners to the general public! Won’t be returning!

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
