Unfortunately this was one of my top two worst experiences at a Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in over 30 years of frequenting the establishment/chain (in all the visits over this time, I can only remember two). This visit was like the first hill of a roller-coaster. Ascended quickly (with much promise) and went downhill quickly. As employees leave jobs for bad managers, a great/promising experience at a restaurant can be ruined by service in a heartbeat, which was the case during this visit. We stopped by on the way out of town (as we live @ 2 hours away in Nothern Georgia) and my wife wife was craving some Pappadeaux's.
My wife is currently mobility impaired and confined to a wheelchair. While accessing the restaurant, the facility has good access and ramps to the entrance. Although the entrance has door wide enough to allow wheelchair access, clearance is very minimal as the door opens to the outside (so a little tricky to hold the door open and back a wheelchair inside. As we were entering and maneuvering inside both hostesses were observing and did not leave the stand to assist (also did not offer to assist to hold the door as we left).
We were seated immediately (@ 1:10 pm) and Jason was our server. He quickly created us, took our drink and appetizer order (iced teas, Greek Salad, cup of Shrimp Gumbo, and some bread). Everything was at the table within 15-20 minutes. After we received our appetizers, Jason did check on us ONE time and refilled my tea. He did not check back with us until @ 45 minutes later at 2:15pm (so, we were not able to order or entrees till then). Between the appetizers and and when Jason finally checked on us at 2:15pm to take our order, I did over him tell another waiter that he had been cut (but still around in the section filling salt and pepper at an adjacent table). Lady behind us also got her gumbo and drink quickly, and Jason failed to check on her - she was irritated and cashed out.
Entrees finally came out 30 minutes later by another server. Due to nearly being there for almost 2 hours and having, frustrated for slow to not existing service for us, a two hour drive ahead, and my wife wife wanting dessert, we asked the server to box it up to go and bring us the Turtle Brownie w/ ice cream. He said he would get our server (now Joshua, who picked up or table when Jason left). Joshua did bring the boxes for our entrees, our dessert, and teas to go.
Ratings based on following:
Service 1 ☆ due to being abysmal and not having anyone around to ask for needed items (like additional napkins)
Food 3 ☆'s - based on the salad, gumbo, and dessert we did eat at the restaurant (to be fair we could have eaten our entrees there, and gotten home much later. Food was great what we ate. Wished I could have order entrees earlier so I could have enjoyed them. I hope they re-heat nicely at home🤞
Atmosphere is standard Pappadeaux's
I really enjoy shelling out over $100+ and don't even get to eat half of it 🤬. Additionally, it is nice ti see everyone else being waited on, but you are forgotten.
I understand things happen, as I've worked in the Customer Service Industry.
FAILURES happen, but it is how you respond to the failure that counts. Ball is in your court Pappadeaux's!
Also, if you eat here, I highly recommend asking your server if they will l be ending their shift. If so, ask for another or you'll be there much longer than expected. I also wonder how much they have to pay their delivery drivers in demurrage for waiting around?
