- BBBlingalotDec 20, 20253.0GASLIGHT OF THE YEAR Ok, I come to this Portillos at least 3 to 4 times a month and I always get my usual, an Italian beef with hot and sweet peppers with gravy on the side and they’ve always put my peppers on my sandwich. Ive gotten the same at the Brandon location as well as the Chicago location. My order is always the same. But this time at this location they didn’t put my peppers on my sandwich. They put them on the side in little containers. I was going to let it go and just count it as a mistake but I realized they forgot to put my gravy in the bag, so I proceed to the front to get my gravy. As they are getting the gravy I just mentioned how it was odd that they put the peppers on the side. A young lady proceeded to tell me, “We never put the peppers on the sandwich, that’s extra!” I gripped my imaginary pearls and said, “Come again! My sandwich always, for years have come withe pepper on it!” She said, “Not here in Tampa you haven’t!” Well, I then took my meta glasses off so I could hear her better, surely my vision must have been hindering my hearing. I said, “So you mean to tell me you’ve never put peppers on the Italian beef?” She says, “No never.” And the another male worker chose to so wrongly chime in with his incorrectness and says, “No we’ve never done that!” I said, “Well how long have you been here, are you two new?” He says he’s been working there for 4 years and apologizes if I thought they did! WHAT IN THE ACTUAL… I couldn’t believe the gaslighting!! I went to my seat and told the rest of my crew and they were flabbergasted as well. So hubby being hubby went to ask just to see for himself m. And they tell him…… you ready…… they tell him peppers come on the sandwich and they always have. I was so salty I couldn’t even enjoy my food. PORTILLOS, tell your workers if a customer is insisting that they are used to having something one way, then just maybe they’re telling the truth. Don’t gaslight them to try to make it seem like they’re the crazy ones. That’s all.
