Another first time visit to a restaurant in our area, this time at Don Julio’s in New Tampa. This restaurant is a pretty good size and it nicely decorated with a Mexican theme. It was pretty spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and professional. The menu was extensive with both authentic and American style Mexican dishes. We had a cheese dip with chips and it was good. For lunch, my wife had a taco salad with steak and I had an enchiladas carne. Every thing was great except the steak was a little chewy in the taco salad. Living in both New Mexico and Texas we know all about Mexican food and different styles, if you’re looking for some good Mexican food we’d recommend Don Julio’s.

We visited this restaurant for the first time today, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. I ordered the quesabirria tacos with consomé, and my SO ordered a burrito. When the food arrived, the presentation was underwhelming—three very small tacos with no sides, and his burrito came with the same basic chips every table gets for free.
The flavor was just as disappointing—bland and completely lacking authenticity. We dined in around 2 p.m. and only noticed after ordering that there were lunch specials tucked away on the table. Our waitress never mentioned them and seemed completely uninterested the entire time.
To call this “authentic Mexican food” feels like an insult to the incredible Mexican restaurants that actually take pride in their craft. The atmosphere was lifeless, and even as we left, the two hostesses at the front didn’t bother to acknowledge us.
Overall, the experience was dismal. We won’t be returning. Save your time (and your taste buds) and visit a place that actually values its food and its customers.
