- SDSummer DayMar 15, 20261.0I’ve been coming to Southern Steer Butcher weekly since last year specifically to buy chicken because I thought the meat there was freshly prepared and cut in-house. I’ve been paying higher prices because I assumed the quality and freshness were better than a regular grocery store. Recently I asked for 10 chicken breasts and was handed a bag of pre-packaged chicken from Mountaire Farms. That was really disappointing because it felt like the same type of chicken you could buy anywhere, not something from a butcher shop. When I got home I looked up the supplier and saw a lot of concerning reviews online about workplace issues and employee exposure to chemicals, which made me question the sourcing even more. After paying premium prices for a year thinking it was fresh butchered meat, this was a big letdown and unfortunately makes me reconsider shopping here.

They have become my weekly destination for fresh cuts. Give them a try there’s no reason to get your meat from a chain store with such an awesome business in the neighborhood.

I asked one guy if he'd been here before. He said yes and he said they are legitimate and that he knew where they're me came from. The service was stellar. Could not be better... I highly recommend this butcher. Of course I'll be back.
